Framed prints from Warhol's shoe illustration series, signed in pencil in the lower right, on fine quality archival matte paper. Estate and foundation stamp on verso with annotation in pencil and accompanied by a short bio of the artist.

Andy Warhol loved to draw shoes, high heels, pumps, or jeweled stilettos, and they were among his first subjects when he worked as a young commercial fashion illustrator in 1950s New York. Later on, in 1980, once Warhol had achieved fame as an artist, he returned to portraying footwear. Each of the images in this portfolio features a shoe centrally placed accompanied by a simple line of text, a verbal-visual composition mimicking the picture and ad copy of advertisements. Andy Warhol’s mother helped develop the phrases that go along with each shoe. These shoe illustrations are important, as they not only capture the artist’s early career, but they also include the early pop qualities which Warhol would later alter art history.
